Show 8 is up, and this time in a new format! Why you ask? Because 21 more or less panels are qay too long and I tought you may be bothered to scroll them all, so I asked my good friend to help me in this, and he did a pretty great job! Some credit to him please! I want to thank too for being helpful and the idea behind the arceus-es.
This show is about battles, something everybody does but not all of us think much into it. My opinion is still the same: if you have fun with it, do it unless you're an asshole for it. So as always you know I'm not trying to offend anyone, but you're free to discuss
Also the difference between this and actual competitive talk is the mention of stats, EV training, items, natures and such, but that's something no everybody really cares about So yeah, if you got something to say or ask, feel free to
BTW: If you want to see the full .png version, you can dowload it here [link]
I think battling can actually be very fun if people start learning to stop taking it too seriously. It's kind of unfortunate that about 90% of the fanbase is filled with jerks Get's really nasty on both sides of the spectrum - You're not allowed to use these Pokes cuz they're terrible and I should know, some random person/website said they are. - You're team is completely incorrect - I don't want to try to use different Pokemon. I like these cuz they're powerful, I like these cuz they're my favorite, MOAR EEVEELUTIONS!!!! how did I lose!? Where I'm trying to get at with that is that most fans are just close minded bigots who don't want to use, or try to use any other Pokemon or try to listen to any sort of rational advice
I think I've raised at least 200 different Pokes in the games with many deleted files in my history. Why do I use so called "shitty" Pokemon, it's because they can be fun to use and fun to build teams with and try something different, you might actually be surprised with the results grant it if you try to raise a Pokemon
I think out of all the people I tried to battle on the competitive level, I think there has only been one close friend. Pretty nice guy, and he can sometimes woop my butt with a Swoobat on his RU team (which is considered to be one of the weakest Unova Pokemon) He also helps me build my teams up and it's really fun to play with him, though he does win about 75% of the time xD
I was trying to get the hang of my newly developed RU team, and this is what happened in the couple of matches - Sceptile got the Sword Dance up and managed to wake it up from a sleep powder and the other player sent out Moltres on a Stealth rock, didn't know my Acrobatics with my Sceptile would OHKO him and I ended up to start sweeping his team, .... ragequite - Crustle managed to get the Shell Smash up and it ended up cutting through most of my opponent's walls ...... Ragequit - The one I was still getting familiar with my new team, not the same person I mentioned above. It was a very close fight actually and he was predicting a number of my moves to his advantage, and though I was missing moves I felt I shouldn't, I saw that I was making some poor decisions. It ended up in him winning with two Pokemon left, but he did show good sportsmanship in the end, oddly enough that was probably the most fun I had with a random person online.
Sorry if I gave you a mouthful, guess I needed to ventilate somehow xD
Finally! Somebody said it! Many people ragequit when you start to win in ways they do not expect. Mostly because they think that since you use mons that you like and are not based on competitiveness, that you would lose. For once, it would be nice for people to have a heart in games and not act like overly serious competitors. The true purpose of battles is for fun, not war.
Ugh, it's so tough to play on Wi-Fi with random people. I just got tired of seeing that loading screen so I gave that up quickly. I just ended up using showdown for that type of gameplay since it's a lot quicker to find others nor do I feel as much at a loss from people who quit. I can also start new games without worrying about what Pokemon I raised.
To be fair to others, I don't mind being competitive in gaming. It's when it's taken too seriously is when it becomes a problem. Competitive is a genre of gaming that refers to playing with someone and you're going against each other. In a Pokemon battle with someone, you are having a competitive mindset because your ultimate goal is to win. If you didn't change your mindset to think that way, then most likely you're pressing random buttons. But yes, the mindset of "I should switch into a dark type to predict the psychic move" is a competitive mindset because you are looking for a way to win. But competitive doesn't automatically mean you're not having fun since it is ultimately a genre that some people get interested in.
But it's when people start to whine about things not going as planned. Setting up ridiculous rules. Saying certain Pokemon suck because of Smogon... then getting mad at it because some of their favorite mons got on NU tier. Basing everything on statistics. Thinking that it's the same as in the main game then realizing the same strategy doesn't work against others and whining about it. It just makes you look closed minded and rude at the same time while taking things way too seriously and those are the people that kind of annoy me.
It's ok, opinions are always fun to read Agreed with you, and I'm sorry some people can't have fun in both sides of it, because I find it a waste of time to win just to win
soooooooooooooooooooooootrue. you don't even know how applicable that is to me. my mom's boyfriend is a competitive-minded tier obsessed gen II-V hater. It really pisses me off at times. and when it comes to smash bros... lets just say being ranked 3rd best in the state invariably mean's you're an asshole from what I've seen. he's yet another Brawl hater as well. (ugh, mind my rant, the guy just never stops being obnoxious.)
